Anyone Can Vote In The New York Primary By Absentee Ballot

The New York Primary is coming up June 23rd and for the first time, anyone and everyone can vote by absentee ballot.

According to the article on www.nyup.com Governor Cuomo issued an executive order that will allow everyone in New York to vote, either by mail or online due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The online vote is only available in a few Central New York counties and doesn't really apply to the Capital Region.

In most years, Upstate voters would need to apply for an absentee ballot at least 7 days before an election, but due to the fact that most workers for the County Boards of Elections are working remotely, you should send in the application as soon as possible to be processed for the June 23rd primary. The last day to postmark your application is June 16th.

Normally, you could also drop the application for an absentee ballot in person at your county elections board, but they are closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Voters are asked to select “temporary illness” on the application as the reason why they’re unable to vote in person during the pandemic.
