Brett Young’s New Album Will Have a ‘Happier Feeling’
Brett Young has made a name for himself penning heart-wrenching songs across the spectrum, whether sweet like the popular wedding dance song "In Case You Didn't Know," or weepers such as "Like I Loved You" and "Mercy." He says his upcoming album will feature more light-hearted numbers, but not so much that it feels saturated with love songs.
“It is definitely a happier feeling album. I did, though, want to make sure that we didn’t just put out 12 love songs. You alienate kind of half your audience at that point," he explains to his record label home, Big Machine Label Group. "Everybody has way more broken heart stories than happily ever after. So there’s more uptempo songs and just the overall feel is happier. But I still put a good amount of breakup songs in there for the people that are connecting to those right now.”
Young has offered thoughtful insight into what fans can expect from the new project, which could see a single release by the end of summer 2018, telling Taste of Country that the sound leans more toward a "peppy" and "uptempo" vibe. He'll also pull in elements from the music he was inspired by throughout childhood.
Brett Young Talks About His New Album:
“One thing that me and [producer] Dann Huff really want to incorporate into this record is just that I grew up listening to soul music and R&B music, and so there’ll be some production stuff where you can hear a little bit of a throwback thing," he describes.
Though Young is busy putting the finishing touches on his sophomore project, he's building in time to pen a song specifically for his wedding to fiancee Taylor Mills, which will take place in November of 2018.
