Chris Janson Jams Out to Fun-Loving ‘Run, Run Rudolph’ at CMA Country Christmas [WATCH]
Chris Janson brought a high-energy, bluesy rendition of "Run, Run Rudolph" to CMA's Country Christmas holiday special, which aired on Dec. 3 on ABC. Press play above to get into the holiday spirit!
The traditional Yuletide number was popularized by Chuck Berry in 1958, and before he took the stage, Janson told The Boot and other outlets that he didn't intend to stray too far from the classic version of the song. "I'm singing 'Run, Run Rudolph' in the total fashion of Chuck Berry. Really no difference," he commented.
However, Janson did bring his signature style to his rendition of the song in at least one respect. "I'm a better harmonica than guitar player, so I'm gonna play the rhythm guitar and I'm gonna play lead harmonica," he added. Indeed, Janson's harmonica solo added plenty of holiday zest to an already fun-loving performance on the Country Christmas stage.
For his own Christmas celebrations this year, the singer says he's focusing on family. "Christmas as a parent...it's not about you when you have kids," he adds with a smile. "Whenever I got to be in [my wife] Kelly's family, it was just good, man. I always cared so much about myself -- still do, everyone does -- but I became more of a dad and learned to care for others first. It was just an amazing, humbling experience."
This year's CMA Country Christmas special is hosted by Trisha Yearwood and features an array of country A-listers performing Christmas classics and original holiday tunes. Other performing acts include Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Chris Young, Brett Young, Runaway June and more. This year's show also highlights a number of cross-genre collaborations, such as Rascal Flatt's duet with gospel legend CeCe Winans.
