Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling on state lawmakers to pass what’s known as the Raise The Age legislation that would treat those 18 and up as adults for criminal liability. Currently New York is one of two states that does not treat 16- and 17-year-olds as juveniles regardless of the crime committed. Cuomo says by raising the age New York can insure juveniles receive the intervention and rehabilitation they need and also increase public safety across the state.
