It’s Official: 2020 Rockefeller Christmas Tree To Be Felled Thursday

It's now official! The West Oneonta massive evergreen tree that crews have been preparing for transport and (up until now) rumored to be the next Christmas tree for Rockefeller Center in New York City is coming down tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. according to a press release.

It's an impressive 75-foot tall, 45-foot in diameter, 11-ton Norway Spruce that has been donated by Daddy Al’s General Store in Oneonta, owned by Al Dick. The tree is from his home property.

New York State Police are warning Oneonta commuters that they can expect traffic delays through this Thursday on State Highway 23 north of state highway 8 in West Oneonta as the tree gets prepared for transport.

The northbound lane will be closed today from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. On Thursday, the northbound lane will be closed from 7:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. then both lanes will be closed until around 11:00 a.m. The closures are necessary to protect motorists.

After the tree is felled and loaded on a flatbed truck, it will be brought in to Manhattan and erected at Rockefeller Center on Saturday, November 14. You can get details about how to visit the lit Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, yet to be announced, in the coming weeks at www.rockefellercenter.com.
