In December 2023, Toby Keith played three sold-out shows at Las Vegas' Dolby Live theater at Park MGM.

At the time, the country legend was in the middle of a return to the spotlight, after spending much of the past year and a half off the road in order to battle stomach cancer. But in late 2023, Keith felt ready to return to the stage: Earlier that fall, he'd made an appearance at the People's Choice Country Awards, where he gave a chilling performance of "Don't Let the Old Man In" and accepted the Country Icon Award.

Sadly, Keith's shows would go on to be his last. The singer died on Monday (Feb. 5), according to a statement posted to his social media. He was 62 years old.

Flip through the gallery below to look back at some of the unforgettable moments Keith shared with his audience during those three nights in Las Vegas. The legend performed some of his biggest hits during the course of the two-hour show, as well as a special segment in the middle of the set where he sang songs that "should have been singles" — aka his personal favorite deep cuts from his catalog.

After the first show show, Keith shared a photo recap of the night on social media, calling his first night in Vegas "a triumphant return."

"One hell of a night in Vegas," he wrote in the caption of his post, which shows snapshots of the singer performing as well as one backstage, behind-the-scenes shot.

"Ready to do it all over again tonight."

Throughout his cancer battle, Keith was realistic, but optimistic, about the future. In his final conversation with Taste of Country, he expressed hope that a full tour would be possible in 2024, adding that he was "getting the trucks and buses fired up."
