On June 6, 2024, at approximately 11:45 AM, New York State Police in Oneonta responded to a serious accident on Bert Washburn Road in the town of Otego, involving a motorcycle and a utility truck.

The investigation revealed that the utility truck was parked and unoccupied when Robert P. Burns III, 39, of Otego, NY, was traveling southbound on his motorcycle. Burns lost control and slid into the front of the utility truck, resulting in him being thrown from the motorcycle and ending up underneath the truck.

Despite the efforts of Troopers, Otego EMS, and Otego Fire to render aid, Burns was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the New York State Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit were also present. The investigation is ongoing.
