The Oneonta Police Department quickly responded to a call from A.O. Fox Hospital's emergency room staff on April 14th at about 7:40pm regarding a reported gunshot wound. Officers promptly arrived at the hospital to gather further details.

Upon reaching the hospital facility, uniformed officers were informed that a 51-year-old individual identified as John E. Walley, hailing from Otego, NY, had been brought to the hospital in a private vehicle by a third party. Unfortunately, both the vehicle and the individual who transported Mr. Walley had left before the police arrived.

During a brief interview with Mr. Walley, he indicated that he sustained the injury while on Chestnut Street and provided specifics of the alleged incident's location. However, subsequent investigation revealed that the information provided by Mr. Walley did not lead to any viable leads.

After exhaustive exploration of all investigative leads and a subsequent re-interview with Mr. Walley, who declined further cooperation, the case is set to be closed. Nevertheless, the case may be reopened pending the receipt of additional information and the victim's willingness to cooperate.
