Oneonta’s New Roundabout Aims To Ease Traffic Woes

Roundabouts. They are part of our landscape, like it or not. I understand the reason is for better traffic flow, and I am a bit impatient waiting for the light to turn green at intersections, especially when they last longer than I think they should, so I am in favor of roundabouts where they make sense.

I know how to navigate a roundabout, as most people do, especially in the Greater Binghamton area, where we have four roundabouts, but I do have a bit of hesitation when entering one, since I'm never sure if other motorists entering the same roundabout at different entry points understand the rules.

Well, maybe in time, humans will figure it out. And while we are on the subject, to those of you who live in, around, work, or visit the Oneonta area, congratulations on your first roundabout!

Where Is The New Oneonta Roundabout?

This project is a win for everyone who lives in or travels through the City of Oneonta, providing enhanced access to a downtown area known for its quaint shops and robust student population. Roundabouts are proven to reduce serious crashes, while keeping traffic moving and reducing delays. Second Project Slated For Oneonta

The DOT notes that a second project is tentatively scheduled for this year's Oneonta construction season, upgrading sidewalks and enhancing the flow of traffic along Routes 23 and 28 near the southern end of the Lettis Highway.
