Kane Brown’s Drummer, Kenny Dixon, Dies in Car Accident
Kenny Dixon, a longtime member of Kane Brown's band, has died. The musician passed away following a one-car accident early Saturday, (Oct. 12), MusicRow reports.
Tennessee Highway Patrol officials say speed is to blame in Dixon's crash: He was driving a 2016 Kia Rio LX in the right lane of I-24 East in Christiana, Tenn., which is about 40 miles southeast of Nashville, when the accident occurred. While going at a high rate of speed at about 12:45AM local time, Dixon's vehicle exited the roadway on the right side, near mile marker 88, and traveled for about 100 yards before hitting a tree head-on.
Dixon was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. THP Lt. Charlie Caplinger says that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as factors, and no criminal charges have been filed related to the crash.
"It is with profound sadness and disbelief that we confirm we lost our drummer Kenny this weekend in a tragic car accident," reads a statement from Brown's team. "Kenny was a member of our family from the very beginning, and our hearts are with his fiancée Sarah, his son and everyone who knew and loved him. He was truly one of the greatest and kindest people on and off stage we’ve ever known.”
On Instagram, Brown remembered Dixon's loyalty all the way back to 2015, "when nobody else believed we would make out of Chattanooga playing for 500 people."
"Your last show was in an Fn [sic] stadium my guy," Brown adds. "I know you will be watching over us with that redneck accent that we all love and you will never be replaced bro!!!"
A native of Dalton, Ga., Dixon leaves behind both his fiancee, Sarah Hedrick, and their 3-year-old son Levi James. Dixon, who was just 27 years old, and Hedrick were planning a Nov. 30 wedding.
"I’m at a loss of words. I don’t even know how to write this or ever thought I would have to," Hedrick writes on Instagram, sharing a series of sweet photos of their family. "I know I have to be strong for Levi and God is gonna pull us through this. We have a forever guardian angel watching above us now."
Per Dixon's obituary, a celebration of life will be held for Dixon on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 3PM local time at Dalton's Crosspointe Church, followed by a burial at the nearby West Hill Cemetery. A wake will take place on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Crosspointe Church, from 5PM until 9PM.
Brown has rescheduled one show in light of Dixon's death: A concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., originally scheduled for Friday (Oct. 18) has been rescheduled for Jan. 9, 2020.
