The Grammy Awards crowned Olivia Rodrigo Best New Artist in 2022, and although her work is in pop, her collaboration aspirations are in country. When asked on the awards show red carpet who she would like to work with next, the 19-year-old said collaborating Brandi Carlile would be a dream come true.

“Brandi Carlile is performing tonight and she’s a big inspiration,” Rodrigo tells Entertainment Tonight. “I think she’s an incredible songwriter, so I’m excited to meet her.”

Carlile took the stage at the 64th annual Grammys to perform "Right on Time" from her seventh album, These Silent Days. It's possible that the two artists crossed paths backstage, as Rodrigo also performed her song "Drivers License" during the show.

Both women were nominated for several Grammys — Carlile was up for five awards, while Rodrigo received seven nods. The two were even up against each other in the categories of Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Rodrigo would go on to win three awards.

Country music was well represented during this year's Grammys telecast, despite most of the awards being handed out in a pre-show ceremony. Carrie Underwood performed her haunting song "Ghost Story" for the first time, Brothers Osborne closed out the show, and Chris Stapleton won Best Country Album — the biggest country award handed out on this day. Underwood, Stapleton and Bros were all pre-broadcast winners, as well, with Underwood scoring a Grammy for her gospel record, My Savior.
