The Public Service Commission announced that power has been restored to nearly 97 percent of those who lost power due to Hurricane Sandy. Utility companies are now focusing on restoring power to those remaining without power.

According to Public Service Commission chairman Garry A. Brown, the restoration effort was the largest of its kind in state history.

At its peak, the devastating storm that struck Oct. 29 left more than 2.1 million customers without power. More than 7,000 utility companies from across the country were called in to help restore the energy.
