An Oneonta man, who Otsego County sheriffs say is a major heroin dealer, was arrested Tuesday evening. Otsego County sheriff’s office has been investigating Steven Rochelle Belton, 43, for a month before his arrest.

Belton was taken into custody following the search of his 406 Chestnut Street residence.

He is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Authorities say they seized 40 packets of heroin valued at $800, and 40 grams of marijuana valued at $400. Also seized were scales and $14,000 in cash.

Belton was remanded to the Otsego County correctional facility without bail due to two previous felony charges. Belton faces 15 years to life if prosecuted as a persistent offender.
