Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ Title Track Is Old-School Ballad Perfection [Listen]
Taylor Swift debuted the title track of her upcoming album, Lover, at midnight Friday (Aug. 16), and fans already can't get enough of it.
"I go where you go / And can we be this close / Forever and ever / And I take me out / Take me home / You're my my my my / Lover," Swift sings in the chorus.
The new track is a ballad that has a 1960s or 70s-ish vibe to it. The song will surely be future fodder for first wedding dance songs, singing about a picture-perfect love story with lyrics that can relate to almost any relationship. This particular subject arena is inarguably something Swift has mastered perfectly as a songwriter. Swift co-produced the track alongside Jack Antonoff, who was a key contributor to her last album, reputation.
The song also came with a lyric video that also showcases videos from Swift's personal home movie collection. Her warm and breathy vocals fit perfectly with the visual of a projector's screen and the images being played on it.
Swift also announced that the music video for the song will debut on Aug. 22, the day of her Good Morning America concert in Central Park, which is also the day before her seventh studio album drops.
The music video will also have a live stream prior to its release, which will include a fan Q&A, live performance—and fashion designer Stella McCartney. Swift announced during a previous live stream that she collaborated with McCartney on a fashion collection.
Fans can purchase one of four special edition Lover albums at Target, all of which will include 100 pages of Swift's personal diaries (each edition having different pages) along with audio recordings of Swift creating two tracks. The new album will feature 18 new songs including "Me!," "The Archer," and "You Need to Calm Down."
