Tri-County COVID-19 Cases And Vaccine Update March 4

Looking at COVID-19 case numbers reported by The Otsego County Department of Health (3/3): there were 30 new confirmed cases yesterday with 8 people currently hospitalized with complications from the virus.  There are currently 141 known active cases in the county with a total of 52 COVID-19 related deaths. The Health Dept. has a COVID-19 dashboard with daily updates for the latest information.

Delaware County Health officials have an update from yesterday (3/3), reporting 10 new cases yesterday. There are 97 active and there are 11 people hospitalized. The total number of deaths related to coronavirus complications is at 42. Go to delawarecountypublichealth.com/covid-19/#Dash to access the Delaware County Public Health COVID-19 dashboard.

For COVID-19 vaccine information, county health officials recommend visiting www.nyuhs.org/southerntiervax. DCPH has 1st and 2nd dose clinics scheduled this week for essential 1B workers and people with comorbidities but all clinics are full. Officials suggest for those 65 and older, you can call The Office for the Aging at 607-832-5750 to schedule an appointment at a Public Health Clinic. Also, there are select local pharmacies where a limited amount of vaccines are administered. You can call your local pharmacy to find out when/if they will be receiving vaccine. The vaccine will continue to be available for people over 65 at pharmacies and state mass vaccination sites. Additional assistance with getting a vaccine is available to New Yorkers through the NY State COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline: 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829). The COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline is open 7AM - 10PM, 7 days week, to help New Yorkers determine if they are eligible and schedule vaccination appointments.

In Chenango County, the health department reported new COVID-19 stats for 3/3 on their facebook page. At that time, the health department was reporting 66 active cases, 9 hospitalizations related to the virus, and the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 complications are currently at 53. For those who are currently eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and want to get on the county's wait list, send an email with your name, date of birth, address, phone number and eligibility criteria to COVID19@co.chenango.ny.us.

The Chenango County Department of Health has been working with Bartle’s Pharmacy and the Chenango County Area Agency on Aging to help solve some of these issues that seniors are having with making vaccine appointments. We feel we must prioritize the needs of our seniors and do the best we can to improve access to vaccines for the 65 plus population. Currently, Bartle's does have appointments available for seniors. We will continue to do a vaccine update every Tuesday. It will be posted on Facebook.
