A stunned Walton Town Board held an emergency meeting Monday looking to move forward after the unexpected passing of their popular supervisor Charles F. Gregory earlier that day. Gregory, a fixture with the community , not only was town supervisor but also represented the town on the county board, was active with the fire department, and an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he had been very involved in the building project of the new church. Gregory also was instrumental in bringing the Delaware County Mental Health Facility to Walton. He, alongside Walton Village Mayor Ed Snow, worked hard to develop Water Street and improve the flood issue in the community. He was, at the time of his death, working with the New York State Department of Transportation to improve Delaware Street in a number of ways.

The town board issued a statement Monday, which read, in part, "Charlie was a force of nature and  a passionate believer in our town and community. We will all miss his commitment to this community. We extend our personal sympathies to his family and his friends as we also grieve the loss to our Board".

Mayor Snow spoke of Gregory as, " the consummate public servant", Snow recalled Gregory's service to his country as a career military man, and someone he knew well during the years Charlie served as a trustee on the village board before being elected to the Walton Town Board.
