Woman in Westford, NY Falls To Her Death During Parachute Jump

Very few details have been released surrounding a tragic parachute jump accident that took the life of a Wildwood, Florida resident on the morning of July 24 in the Town of Westford, NY.

New York State Police are reporting that just after 9:00 am, police responded to the scene of a skydiving accident near County Highway 34 in the town of Westford. After an initial investigation, police say that 59-year-old Karen Bernard proceeded to jump out of a plane skydiving when she experienced a malfunction with her parachute. It's not yet known if the parachute failed to open at all or if it did open but had something wrong with it. There is also no mention of her level of experience with skydiving.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation continues.
