Dwight Yoakam is being honored with BMI's President's Award. According to a press release, the honor "is presented to songwriters who have distinctly and profoundly influenced the entertainment industry." Says BMI Vice President of Creative in Nashville Jody Williams, “To this day, no other artist has captured country music’s past and catapulted it into the future quite like Dwight Yoakam. Standing on the shoulders of Bakersfield legends, Dwight’s self-penned songs have made indelible marks on America’s musical culture. His career includes roles in most every facet of the entertainment business ..." Yoakam will receive the honor at BMI's 2019 BMI Country Awards ceremony, set for Nov. 12, 2019. -- AS

Trace Adkins, Brothers Osborne and more will come together in February to honor late Montgomery Gentry member Troy Gentry at the second annual C'Ya on the Flip Side concert. The event -- which will also feature Gentry's bandmate Eddie Montgomery, Abby Anderson, Rhett Akins, T. Graham Brown, Tracy LawrenceJustin Moore, Mark Wills and more artists to be announced, will benefit the Troy Gentry Foundation, the Opry Trust Fund, the TJ Martell Foundation, Make-a-Wish, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Journey Home Project and music programs and scholarships within schools in Gentry's home state of Kentucky. C'Ya on the Flip Side II is set for Feb. 5, at the Grand Ole Opry House, and tickets will be on sale on Monday (Oct. 14) at 10AM CT. -- AS

Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic

A new documentary centered around the deadly 1977 plane crash that killed Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and five others is set for release on DVD on Dec. 13. Called I'll Never Forget You: The Last 72 Hours of Lynyrd Skynyrd, the film is based on survivor Gene Odom's book of the same name, and will feature behind-the-scenes footage of the band prior to the crash, "dramatic reenactments illustrating key scenes" and interviews with first responders. -- AM

Marcus King band El Dorado Tour

Singer-songwriter Marcus King has announced plans to release his much-anticipated debut solo album. Titled El Dorado, the album was produced and co-written in part by Black Keys member Dan Auerbach, and features a cast of top-notch writers and session musicians, per a press release. "Marcus is known by so many as a phenom guitar player, and rightfully so. He’s regularly the best player in the room, hands down. I was equally blown away by the way he can sing -- so effortless, so soulful, straight from the heart," Auerbach says in a statement. "He’s really one of a kind, and I’m proud I got to work alongside him on this record.” El Dorado is set for release on Jan. 17 via Fantasy Records. -- AM

Katie Stevens Paul DiGiovanni married

Nashville songwriter and producer Paul DiGiovanni and The Bold Type actress Katie Stevens tied the knot on Saturday (Oct. 12), People reports. The couple, who had their first date five and a half years ago, celebrated their wedding with 250 family, friends and other loved ones -- including Dan + Shay and their wives, DiGiovanni's Boys Like Girls bandmates and Stevens' The Bold Type castmates -- just outside of Music City.
