Hometown Throwdown: Focus On Fly Creek, New York
On the surface, Fly Creek, New York might seem like a sleepy town that's adjacent to Cooperstown. Look below the surface, and you'll find all kinds of interesting things to do, eat, drink, and see.
From legacy establishments to hidden gems, there's much to be discovered.
Fly Creek Cider Mill
Legendary is a good word to describe this Otsego County institution. I remember coming here many years ago for unique gourmet food items, cider and donuts. Since then, their expansion has been exponential. It's easy to get lost inside the sprawling halls and multiple levels of shopping. They still have their full line of specialty foods, cider, apples, cheeses, and so much more. Check out their snack bar for apple cider donuts and other treats.
Fly Creek General Store
Fly Creek General Store is a hidden gem. I love a good breakfast sandwich, and this spot makes them piled high and hearty. Stop in for groceries, deli items, fresh coffee and more. Eat in or take out at their cafe. They have all kinds of goods from local farms and producers too!
Pail Shop Vineyards
Get your tasting on at this Fly Creek winery and tasting room. Just up the road from Fly Creek Cider Mill, small production wines are the name of the game here. Pail Shop Vineyards makes white, red and rosé varietals, as well as their famous sangria. When they're open, they're tasting! Check their website for hours before you visit.
The Buzz
The Buzz is a new, hip spot in Fly Creek. Located at the town's main intersection, this tapas bar aims to bring local and international flavors to your table. The owners define their concept as "slow food" deriving from European sensibilities. Chef driven, expect to find menu items outside the norm at this up and coming new eatery.
