Delaware County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a crash on Route 17 in Colchester that has left a New Jersey man dead.

Authorities say 54-year-old Gregory Wright of Randolph was driving a 1976 Corvette westbound at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, May 16 when he lost control and his car hit guide wires and an earthen embankment.

The Sheriff’s office says Deputies, New York State Police, the Roscoe-Rockland Emergency Squad and members of the Cooks Falls, East Branch and Downsville Fire Departments all responded to several 911 calls about the crash, approximately a mile and a half east of the Cooks Falls exit.

Authorities say the cause of the crash is still undetermined.
